New Venture Fund Targets Innovations in Blood Research

New York Blood Center, a nonprofit that provides services to patients and conducts research in blood diseases, has launched a venture fund to invest in the field—including in startups targeting conditions that typically don’t receive significant investor attention.

NYBC is one of several healthcare nonprofits to form venture groups in recent years to encourage innovation in their fields. Others include the American Cancer Society’s BrightEdge and JDRF’s T1D Fund, an investor in technologies for Type 1 diabetes patients.
