German Inflation to Decrease From September, Bundesbank Says

U.S. Factory Sector to Contract This Year

German inflation should fall from September as base effects from fuel subsidies and a discounted 9-euro rail ticket introduced in 2022 wear off, the Bundesbank says in a monthly report. The central bank also expects recent price declines for intermediate products, or those used to produce other products, will gradually be passed on to consumers. However, the Bundesbank says the core inflation rate, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, is likely to remain high over the summer, citing a higher weight now given to package holidays in the inflation basket following the end of pandemic restrictions.
